Saturday 15th June

We met the essential Duncan at Start Point. There was no one to collect cash at the car park, so we got a free day’s parking. Duncan took us by winding routes to East Portlemouth, opposite Salcombe.  Not long after setting out, the heavens opened with a sharp shower.  I had convinced myself it wasn’t going to rain.  I had no anorak ang got soaked to the skin.  There were a couple of heifers on the very narrow path happily munching the grass verges.  We had no choice but to wait in the freezing rain while they ambled along.  We finally got to a clearing wide enough for us to scramble past.

The weather improved quite quickly and I was soon dry again, but the water may have got into one of my hearing aids.  Repair cost: £150.00.

We also got a phone call from Becky.  She had arranged to visit us tomorrow for Father’s Day.  It turns out that one of John’s children has set up a rival FD event.  We agreed that they should come tonight instead. Becky texts that she has booked for 19.15. No pressure.

The path is quite hard as far as Prawle Point, but after that,  easy, and we are back at the Start Point car park by five o’clock.

The sat nav then gets me hopelessly lost.  It decides to miss the main road at Torcross completely and we end up yet again in someone’s back garden.  Swapping to Google, we get out reasonably well and enter Dartmouth by the Kingsbridge Road.

We have time to shower and change before meeting Becky and John at Brown’s Hotel.  They were slightly late – sat nav problems!  Becky hands over a FD card and other presents, including a lovely mug which will become my forever morning tea mug.  So sweet of them to make the effort to come down from West Hill.
