Wednesday 24th April
It’s goodbye to
Fowey today. We are moving base to Polperro.
I assumed we could repeat yesterday’s journey, but it would mean an
early start again, because the next bus after 09.29 was so late. So we booked a taxi to pick us up at The
Ship. Driver got us a mile past the
Bodinnick ferry when I realised I had left my sticks propped against the
pub. We turned back. They were still there. But it did mean we did the ferry three times
and doubled the fare to £80. Each ferry crossing adds £6.00 to the fare.
Taxis don’t go into
Polperro. We were set down at the
Crumplehorn pub and had to trundle all the way to the sea. Our next Airbnb, Westcliffe, is literally on
the start of the SWCP. It promised a sea
view. Actually it looks over the
harbour. You have to squint to see the sea.
Otherwise it is excellent.
We settle in and
topple into the Blue Peter pub which is right next door. It is cheerful and the food is good. They don’t have Wifi, so we can’t have our
evening game of Scrabble.
