 Marazion to Praa Sands

We are out early to get the Mouse bus outside the house. It doesn’t come.  No bus comes down the other way either.  In puzzlement, we head down to the bus stop at Newlyn Bridge where a woman tells us that there is a bus strike.  While waiting for a taxi, an old chap ‘has a fall’.  Two women from the cafĂ© come out and help him onto a chair.  I find his broken specs and put them in his pocket.  He has a nasty gash on his forehead and they call an ambulance. Meanwhile, we offer a taxi lift to the woman who told us about the strike.  But she was only going to the library to change her book and declines.

The taxi to Marazion  costs £20.00.  The driver takes us through the town to where the path starts.  This probably saves us half a mile – another little cheat… Weather is still beautiful but there’s a cold wind.  We walk though tamarisk hedges with glimpses of St Michael’s Mount slowly disappearing in the rear-view mirror.  My elbow is sore and I have bandaged it to stop the graze rubbing on my shirt.

We get to Praa Sands in time for lunch and picnic on the beach.  Then we climb up steps to the Sandbar pub and have a coffee in the afternoon sunshine waiting for a taxi back to Newlyn.

Continuing our tour of the foodie venues of Newlyn, we have booked dinner at the Tolcarne Inn.  I suppose it was once a rough harbour-side tavern.  It is now probably the premier fish restaurant in Newlyn.  I had smoked trout as a starter followed by monkfish and a share of a mango mousse. All delicious – as it should be for £113 + £10 tip!  Glass of wine included.
