Wednesday 16th March

The sculpture Garden at Barbara Hepworth's studio

A delicious lie in.  We are both glad not to be walking today.  We decide that we can’t leave St Ives without paying homage to Barbara Hepworth.  We schlepp all the way to the Tate to buy our tickets.

Dialogue with the lovely person on the ticket desk at Tate Modern, sitting under a sign saying 'buy tickets for the Gallery and Barbara Hepworth Studio'

Us:  “Good morning, please can we have two tickets to the Barbara Hepworth Studio”

LP:  “You can get them at the studio”

Us:  “Thank you. Could you possibly give us directions there?”

LP: “No. Ask the security man”

It turns out that the studio is literally just above our hotel.  We are enjoying our day of rest too much to be very annoyed by the Lovely Person at the Tate, and we spend a happy hour with Barbara Hepworth, admiring her work and enjoying the tranquillity of the sculpture garden.

We do a little shopping.  I get new lightweight boots in the sale at Mountain Warehouse.

We lunch at the Source CafĂ©.  The menu is as original as ever.  I order a roast cauliflower.

Then it’s off to Plymouth for R & R with Derek and Maggie.
